ABOUT OASN

 
  • There are 1,049 school nurses in Ohio (ODE 2003)

 

  • There are 481 school nurses who belong to OASN

 

  • There are 57,954 school nurses nationally.  This represent a 22% increase since 1996 (US Department of Health and Human Services, NASN March 2000)

 

  • The recommended ratio of school nurses to students is 1:750 (NASN, Healthy People 2010)

 

  • There are 14 states that mandate school health service (Ohio does not)

 

  • There are 18 states that require a BS as a minimum requirement for school nurse education (Ohio is included)

 

  • There are 21 states that require additional credentials/licensure as a school nurse (Ohio is included)

 

  • Currently there are approximately 55 districts that have no health services

 

  • It will cost approximately $2,200,000 to provide health services for those districts.  **(based on an average salary of $40,000 for school nurse)
