What OASN/NASN Membership does for you?

  • Provides leadership at the state/national level in the promotion of health services for all school children.
  • Speaks for the interests of school nurses to the nursing and health community and to the public.
  • Monitors legislation and keeps members informed of state/federal legislation pertaining to the health needs of
    children and school nursing.
  • Promotes and advances quality school health services provided by professional school nurses.
  • Promotes school nursing as a nursing specialty, school nurse certification, and professional standards for school nursing.
  • Works toward job security for the school nurse.
  • Encourages research in child health and school nursing.
  • Provides state/national workshops to improve the expertise of school nurses.
  • Collaborates with Ohio colleges and universities that offer School Nurse Certification programs to promote adherence to NASN Standards and Practice of School Nursing.
  • Provides publications:
    • OASN Newsletter: a publication providing information on issues relating to school nursing with a focus on our Ohio issues.
    • OASN’s Guide to School Nursing in Ohio: a manual describing school health services as provided by a certified school nurse. It includes sections describing the role of the school nurse in health assessment, illness and
      injury, health education and healthful school environment. Other chapters deal with children’s special needs,professional responsibilities of the school nurse, and laws pertaining to school health.
    • NASNewsletter: a publication providing information on current school nursing issues and available resources (5 times a year).
    • NASN’s The Journal of School Nursing: a refereed journal, published 5 times a year, featuring articles on clinical subjects and current issues in school nursing, health and education.

In the Membership Renewal Packet you will receive from NASN/OASN when your membership is up for renewal, there is a survey. This survey takes only 10 minutes to complete. Please take time to do so. This information will assist in planning educational programs, gain understanding of practice needs and planning member services
