REGISTRATION FORM

Dear School Nurses,

Please find attached the registration form for this year’s ODH/ASHA Regional School Nurse Conferences.  Registration forms will be mailed to schools in the next few weeks, but I know many of you are anxious to get paperwork submitted to your districts sooner than that.  The registration form will soon be posted to the ASHA website at www.ashaweb.org.  Click on the “Conference” tab.

We’re excited about the agenda for both the evening and full day sessions.  As part of the ODH Update, we will be discussing delegation and the Decision Making Models developed by the Ohio Board of Nursing as well as the Ohio School Medicaid Program.

We have selected the three Practice Pearls for this year (a different one will be presented at each conference site).  In Mason, Betsy Taylor, RN will describe using a Boardmaker in the school health office.  In Newark, Jill Binford, RN, BSN will describe the experience of her school district as they moved away from a no-nit policy.  In Huron, Jackie Tramontana, RN, M.Ed. will describe the development and implementation of a “Fitness Fun Day.”

We’ll look forward to seeing  you at one of the Regional Conferences this spring

Voices for Ohio’s Children and Ohio Covering Kids & Families will host a Communications Symposium April 23 in Columbus from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Among other agenda items, the symposium will share findings from focus groups on communicating child health expansions and identify and distribute communications materials to promote children’s health care. The gathering also will establish a learning network of communications professionals that can continue to share strategies and tools to promote children’s health care in Ohio.

The symposium is geared toward pediatricians, family physicians, school nurses, family and child serving agencies, Ohio health plans staff, hospital staff, children’s hospital staff, school-based associations as well as legislators and staff. Ohio nurses are invited to attend the Ohio Women's Wellness Symposium, May 21 - 23, 2008. The symposium is being co-sponsored by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), and the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS), at the Cherry Valley Lodge, in Newark, Ohio.

Nurses are also encouraged to submit an abstract for the conference. The focus of the breakout sessions and posters that are being sponsored by Ohio Department of Health, is on all women of childbearing age maintaining their health well in advance of pregnancy in order to reduce the chance of preventable birth defects and complications. If you have specific questions, please contact Sarah Hines at 614-728-8371 or Sarah.hines@odh.ohio.gov  .
