Dear COASN colleagues -
I hope the start of the new school year for each of you has been a good one. Your dedication, compassion, and expertise are truly appreciated, and our school-aged students are so fortunate to have you as a vital part of our school communities.
As we look ahead to the upcoming school year, our collective responsibility to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our students continues to be a top priority. Effective October 3, Ohio House Bill 33 (Sarah's Law) requires each public and chartered nonpublic school to create an individualized seizure action plan for each enrolled student who has an active seizure disorder diagnosis. This plan must be created by the school nurse in collaboration with the student's parent or guardian. To assist you with implementation, please refer to these documents:

NASN Epilepsy Toolkit, a free comprehensive toolkit that provides guidance for school nurses, including a range of seizure training and resources.
Please mark your calendars for the 51st OASN Conference to be held April 19-21st at the Sawmill Creek Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. The 2024 conference team is hard at work planning another incredible learning and gathering experience for us all!
In the meantime, your COASN Board is in the process of finalizing a date and speaker for our fall dinner meeting. We will share those details soon!
We welcome your feedback always! Your insights and recommendations are invaluable as we work together to create a safe and nurturing environment for our students to thrive.
With appreciation and respect for all that you do -
Janice Walsh
